In late August I moved to L.A. where I attend Cal State Northridge. Since I am very passionate about basketball I am majoring in Public Relations and Broadcasting because after receiving my degrees I would like to become a Public Relations Specialist for the Golden State Warriors or Washington Wizards, or a ESPN Sports Broadcaster. Aside from school I am saving up all of my money to sit court side at the Clippers game when the Warriors play them in this up coming season. As you can tell I am still crazy about the Warriors. I have been keeping in touch with all of my best friends from Unity and talk to them very frequently. I am also going to be working at the Big Show 8 which is an annual concert given by my school in which musicians put on a free show for all the students. This year’s concert featured Ludacris and Tyrese. I am also a volunteer for the DefJam Records sponsored movie and music night at my school. Very soon I will be a member of my school’s Associated Students Committee so that I can help organize campus events.

Well, since my senior year I started going to a medical assistant class after school. It was hard for me at first
becaust it was more than 12 hours without going to my house. When I had a lot of homework I would sometimes go to sleep at 2:00 AM to wake up at 6:00 AM but it was worth it. I know have my Medical Assistant Certificate of Competency, which means that I am at a level in which I could compete with others that have more experience than me. Getting my certificate wasn’t easy either; it was hours of study, lots of tests to pass with C’s or better. In order to receive my certificate I had to complete more than 80 hours of service in a real clinic. I was able to see real patients, take their vitals, and even drew blood. Even though I concentrated a lot on my medical assistant class, I never gave up on school. I would always study hard for all my classes to have a high GPA to be be able to go to a university. All that hard work lead me to being accepted to CSU Dominguez Hills. Now I can say “thank you” to all my teachers, and especially my parents who never left me alone and always told me that I could make it. Now I have a chance in life to thank each and everyone by majoring to be a Registered Nurse.

Eric Martinez

UC Santa Cruz

Jessica Martinez
I’ve moved to Bakersfield and I will be attending Bakersfield College. After that I will most likely transfer to CSUB instead of Maritime Academy because after that I am looking into moving to L.A.

Sara Martinez

Merritt College. I am still in my home. My classes are fun and I am taking an English class by a teacher that teaches in SFSU so I am actually getting the same thing that I will get in a big school.

Juan Moreno
I’m currently attending CSUEB, and most importantly, working on my EMO look.

Zakiyah Murray

CSU Northridge

Ofelia Navarro

Laney College

Mabel Orellana

Yareli Ortiz

Well let's see where to start... I'm touring with Britney Spears as a back up dancer. I'm starring in the 3rd Twilight film, small part no big deal but hey it's something. I was also part of the Tiger Woods scandal and I'm writing an epic novel. And the other day Nicholas Sparks (my favorite author) contacted me and said "Yareli I'd like to write a novel about your life."

Okay, okay, being serious now. None of the above is true... Wish it was but it's not. I am now a sophomore at Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont. I got accepted into University of Pacific, so am excited to start in a new school. I'm also working at Boyett Petroleum in San Mateo as a dispatcher full-time. I love my job and it allows me to travel, I've been to Vegas, Chicago, Florida, and many places in Southern Cal. I'm also working for my Zumba instructor certification so I can teach a dance class at a gym.

Jessica Patino

Andrea Perez

I've been living on campus at Sonoma State University since august 23rd. i am currently a sociology major and just started classes the 26th. I plan on living out here all 4 years. I will be doing community service helping out at an elementary school nearby hopefully by next semester. After graduating from Sonoma State i plan on going back to school to receive my teaching credentials then going for my BClad credentials. I want to become an elementary teacher and so far I am more interested in teaching 2nd grade.

Alma Ramirez

There are a couple of things that I have been up to lately, including school, my family and my future goals. The first and main one is school. I am attending Western Career College, training as medical assistant. The reason is because I want to help people in as many ways as I can. My next step is to become a Registered Nurse, so this will be a huge helping point for me to fulfill my goals in life. Since the family seems to be growing a bit each year lately, we give each other the support that we all need to stay cool.

Beatrice Rivera

CSU Northridge

Claudia Robles

Laney College

Martin Rochin

UC Santa Barbara

Eric Romero

UC Santa Cruz

Giovanna Romero

Well, I'm going to Laney and I ended up not doing culinary art. The reason is because I already have to do a lot of reading for my classes and if I want to transfer in 2 years, I have to put those classes first. The classes I am taking are Modern Art History, Political Science, English 1A, and psychology 1A. My favorite classes are Political Science, yes it's rather interesting than I thought, and Psychology. Oh, and my English teacher is also going to show us “Beyond Beats and Rhymes.” (film screened at Unity)

Amado Rosas

Excited that William Hung attends CSUN. Picture with William coming soon!

Moises Sandoval

Edwin Santay

UC Merced, UCM soccer team
Edwin is currently a sophomore at UC Merced and is enjoying his four-day weekends due to a great class schedule. He's also enjoying the low-cost living of Merced, renting an apartment off campus and enjoying his new car. He's working towards a major in Political Science with minors in Literature and Spanish. He's particularly enjoyed his International Relations and Comparative Politics courses and has applied to study in Europe next semester. He completed his second season on UC Merced's soccer team.

Lucia Sieng

Dominican University

Shatika Sloan

Well besides the fact that it's 100 degrees everyday, and I've gotten about 2 shades darker I'm enjoying Cal State Northridge. So far I'm taking all my basic classes and have changed my major twice already. Currently I'm a Sociology/Biochemistry major. I still want to become a Trauma Surgeon, but I decided not to take the Biology road. I've joined the college BSU (Black Student Union), Associated Students and I'm still debating whether I want to join a sorority next semester. I volunteer a lot on campus, and try to stay involved so I won’t get lazy. It’s different from Oakland. You can kind of tell who's from the Bay Area or not by the way they talk and dress.

You don't see birds at all but you will see crickets and squirrels. I like it out here, it just takes time to get used to, especially the weather. The classes are small and very diverse. There are so many people from the Bay Area out here so in a way you feel like you can relate to a lot of people. I live off campus and I’m still getting used living on my own but other then that, I still hang with the Unity kids that go to Northridge too.

Susana Tinoco

Currently, I'm getting myself situated in the Peralta District by taking classes at both Laney and Merritt College. On the weekdays I was offered a part-time job as a staff assistant/tutor at the American Indian Public Charter School (AIPCS)/AIPHS campus by my old middle school principal, Dr. Chavis. It's pretty cool to me because I'm going to be working at a place I used to go to school at. On some weekends I'm going to continue being an intern for the Golden Gate Audubon Society, too. With school and work, I'm going to stay pretty busy but I'm fine since I only have 3 classes totaling 14 units for this semester. My old teachers will be pleased to hear that I've gotten rid of my procrastination habit!

Mariana Torres

Ernesto Urzua

UC Merced

School’s going great. Sometimes it’s a little hot, but it’s OK. It’s going to get really cold soon. The classes are great. The teachers don't use the white board a lot. They have everything on a Power Point.

What’s nice about the school is that they have all these event to keep us unbored like concerts, games, movies, and dances. Like last Friday they played Wall-E, and they had capture the flag/dodgeball using wet sponges.

Not a lot of parties like that other schools but that is a good thing because I can focus more on my studies and work.

Lucero Valdez

UC Santa Cruz

Alfredo Vigil-Moran

I am at Laney taking four classes and I am working with McCullum Youth Court as a case manager specialist. I also keep doing marches throughout California. I am still with BAMN (By Any Means Necessary) and I am still fighting for what I think is just and equal. I am trying to find a second job because now I have more bills to pay(lol), I do not have a actual major right now, but i am taking an anthropology class and it is very fun. Classes are not as hard as i thought they were going to be.

Viviana V. Zamora

Hey there alumni family!

Its been a while. I miss you guys. Hope you guys are doing well. For me hmmm, let me see. Well till this day I'm five months pregnant. Yes! Its a boy. Due July 13, 2010. I can't wait. Baby's name is going to be Anthony Aizea Guzman. I'm still going to school at Laney Community College. I'm planning on transfering to Everest College in Hayward into a Nursing Assisting program to finish faster since I'm going to have my baby soon. I'm going to give him more attention than ever. Its best for me to get into a program to finish as soon as I can. This way I will have a fresh start around the time that the baby is born and I won't have to leave the baby at such a young age. I'm not working right know but am planning to since babies aren't cheap. I was working at Kohls in the Bayfair Mall last year, hopefully I get another start this summer. I hope to hear from you guys. Good luck out there! Here for when you need me. Remember I'm still the same Viviana. Love you guys!
