Beatrice
My name is Beatrice and I am a senior at Unity High. I would like to go to the Gulf Coast to gain knowledge on
how the people on the opposite side of our country live.
I am interested in seeing how they live, dress, speak
and the experiences they have been through. Since I am
in journalism I can use my interviewing and writing skills
for the various projects we will be completing on this trip. I hope that I will come back to California with
great experiences and stories to share about our trip
to the Gulf Coast.
To let you know a bit about myself my favorite song is
“Last Night” sung by Keyshia Cole. One of my
favorite quotes is, “All the water in the world can not sink a boat unless the water gets inside.” (That might
be worded wrong) My heroes are my parents. I am
the type of person that fights for what they want, I
get that from my mom’s side. My family is very
important to me. I have 7 brothers and 1 little sister
that I love very much. (Shout out to my baby cousin
Javi. I love you too)

Juan
Hello! My name is Juan and I’m a senior at Unity High School. I’m a really fun person to be around with I love listening to rap. To be more specific, my favorite artist would be Lil’ Wayne. That guy really gives me the energy that I need all day. What I love doing in my free time is to have fun with my little sister, who is 4 years old. She is the one who asks me if I have done my homework. She is the one that always tells me to stay on track. Some of my dislikes are when people tell me to do things that I don’t feel comfortable with or I don’t agree with. One of my favorite quotes would be “I have a dream.” I love that quote because I have lots of dreams. My grandma always used to tell me follow your dreams; they always mean something. What I really want for me and for my classmates is to accomplish this dream on going down south for our spring break.
Antonio
My name is Antonio but everyone calls me Dro. I'm a rapper/basketball player who has big goals in life. I show respect to get respect from others around me. The reason I really want to attend this trip is to get a lot of knowledge and key points about life. I’m originally from Leland, Mississippi and thats another important thing about me.
Phillesha
I am 18 years old, I am a senior, and I have lived in Oakland all of my life. As a young child I did not have much. I was living with both of my parents who were on drugs at the time. I have been in foster care for 13 years now. I am involved in several extracurricular activities at school, including the Black Student Union and the basketball team, which has helped shape me as person. I have come to be an outspoken person and believe if I think positive on negative situations they will always work out. I believe I cannot wait until I am given permission to fight for the things I believe in. I must take every opportunity and now is the time for me!
I will be attending college next fall, possibly at San Francisco State University. My goal is to major in business so that I can own my own business one day. I believe that economic advancement is the way to rise above poverty. College will help me learn how economics works and the world of business.
Susana
I am in the 12th grade and I will be the first person to graduate from high school in my family. I don’t have a favorite song because I love so many genres of music and it is hard to pick. But one song that’s stuck in my head is an old Spanish one called “Quiero Dormir Cansado” sung by Leo Dan. I like to sleep in on the weekends, listen to music of course, ride around in my bike, write short stories, read interesting novels, and eat good food. I dislike excessive homework and narrow-minded, prejudiced people. The words that I live by are: “Desire nothing for others that you do you not desire for yourself”. My heroine is none other than my mom because she is a strong person who has worked her hardest to give me the opportunities she was never offered. I really enjoy being a student at Unity High because I have taken advantage of all the things that a small school has: caring teachers, more individualized attention, and the chance to do projects like this one.
