Michelle Batlle

For several intentional or unexpected circumstances, I grew up in a variety of different places. My roots stretch all the way to the small Caribbean island of Dominican Republic where I lived until I was 9 years old. In 1999, my father decided to move us to New Orleans in pursuit of greater opportunities and a better education for my siblings and me. Our intention was to stay in New Orleans, but as fate has it, in 2005 due to the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina, my dad was relocated to Kansas City, Missouri. In Kansas City, I spent the majority of my high school years and it was there where I began to fall in love with the art of teaching and learning. In 2009, I was accepted into Stanford University– a lifelong dream. There, I studied Human Biology with a concentration in Youth Development. Following my under graduate education, I enrolled in the Stanford Teacher Education Program through the Graduate School of Education where I received my Masters in Education and teaching credential.
This year will be my first at Unity, and I am thrilled to be here. I values largely align with Unity’s mission, and I believe in higher education. My coursework at Stanford argues that education has the power to serve as the great equalizer among all people, and that teachers are the single most influential determinant in a student’s success. I could not imagine a more challenging and fulfilling career for myself. Go White Tigers!
